"Ever since I was a little kid, all I've wanted to do was be in Rock N' Roll and Horror Movies", claims Jayme Bechtel, guitarist for the Spell Merchants "And at the ripe age of thirty, I'am lucky enough to have done both." Born and raised in Sonoma County, Jayme has been playing in bands since he was seventeen. At nineteen, he was picked up by the Santa Rosa band Daytura and continued to play with them until they split up seven years later. Taking a stab at special effects, Jayme moved to Pittsburgh and was embraced by the Horror/ Metal /Extreme Movement. He graduated from one of the top effects school and worked on Independent films, trailors, and the top haunted house in Pennsylvania; Terrors By The Lake. Jayme also found time to start the horrormetal band High on Formaldahyde with a great group of fellow Pyschopath musicians.

Returning to the Bay Area and bouncing back and forth from Hell A, Jayme worked on films but soon returned to music,"I was really missing being up on stage and I would go to Spell Merchant shows to see every one from the old scene. One night I saw some dweeb singing with them and got real jealous. I talked my way into getting up and singing War Pigs with them. I made such an impression with my shitty vocals, they just had to hire me as a guitar player.", Jayme fondly remembers. Bluesy leads mixed with psychedelic noise on top of a thick stoner groove to produce an eerie composition of riff oriented rock. This is the type of guitarist your parents told you to stay away from. |
